Living with rheumatoid arthritis means some days are harder than others — getting moving can feel impossible when my joints seize up. I’ve been testing the Jorvik Elite Low Step Through Electric Folding Tricycle (JET-E), and honestly, it’s been a revelation. It’s practical, empowering, and genuinely cool — no “unstylish” mobility aids here.
Even my dad, who has Parkinson’s, can use this safely and confidently. It’s amazing to see something that supports both people with disabilities and then watch my totally able bodied husband hop on a whizz around with the same ease. It feels inclusive without ever feeling clinical, and that’s powerful.
My honest breakdown
- Ease of Mounting & Step-Through Design: 9/10
On bad joint days, being able to just step through rather than swing a leg over a bar is a game changer. - Electric Assistance: 10/10
The boost it gives you on hills and longer journeys is incredible — no strain on my wrists or knees, which is such a relief. - Folding & Storage: 8/10
It’s still a chunky bit of kit, but the folding design makes storage so much more achievable than a rigid trike. - Style & Cool Factor: 9/10
Let’s be honest — no one wants to ride something that screams “mobility aid.” This is sleek, modern, and genuinely looks amazing. - Stability & Safety: 10/10
The confidence of three wheels, good disc brakes, and a solid frame is hard to beat, especially if your balance isn’t perfect.
✨ Best Bits
- Low step-through — no awkward movements
- Electric boost on hills
- Looks stylish, not “medical”
- Works for anyone: able-bodied, older adults, those with mobility challenges
- Folding frame for easier storage
- Confidence-building for conditions like RA and Parkinson’s
What I Loved Most
The sense of freedom is what really stood out. So often with arthritis, you feel trapped — you can’t get as far as you want, or you have to plan around pain. This trike removes that. I can go to the park, visit friends, even pop to the shop, and know I can get back without exhausting myself.
It’s also made a huge difference to my dad. Parkinson’s can steal so much confidence, but the stability of three wheels and that gentle electric push means he’s been able to get back outdoors, smiling, without worrying about falls.
And if you’re fully able-bodied? It’s still a brilliant alternative to a car for local journeys, without the balance worries and with better storage than a normal bike.
The bit on the back in fact if perfect for a secure little terrier (or bigger dog) and we are currently getting our own dog used to it. Watching the wind in his hair is gorgeous and it means he can come on the adventures with us.
Verdict?
We recognise this is an investment and not a cheap option, even though it’s currently reduced from £2999 to £2350 (or £1950 for VAT exempt purchases). But if you can find the budget for it, it is absolutely worth it — because the boost to confidence, independence and everyday freedom is genuinely priceless. There are lots of other models of electric tricycles available too, so take a look at Jorvik Tricycles to find one that suits you.
(Remember as well that if you’re buying an electric tricycle as a disability aid, you can claim 20% VAT relief, reducing the cost by 20%).
