- Helps pay for repairs to the other driver’s vehicle — not your own — if you are responsible for an accident. Typically covers damage to road signs, fences, utility poles and other surrounding property, as well.
- Uninsured/underinsured motorist coverage (UM/UIM)
- Helps pay for you and your passengers’ injuries, medical expenses and lost wages if the at-fault driver doesn’t have enough (or any) bodily injury liability coverage.
- Personal injury protection (PIP)
- Helps pay for you and your passengers’ injuries, medical expenses and lost wages, no matter who is at fault for the accident. Required in no-fault states.
- Medical payment coverage (MedPay)
- Helps pay for you and your passenger’s injuries and medical expenses after an accident, regardless of fault. Only mandatory in Maine.
